Description No standing remains of Slades Manor. There is a heavy scatter of 16th century brick and tile evident in the area centred TQ 55429882. An L-shaped pond to the north of this suggests 2 arms of moat are 60m x 10m wide, but there are no traces of other arms to complete the enclosure. There is an external bank, 2m high, on the north west arm. There are 2 fish ponds beyond this, measuring 20m x 10m (each). 1 fish pond is now dry. There is another pond on higher ground to the south east at TQ 55439877, probably a supply pond to the moat. <2> in <1> OS plan card is in SMR. <3> Many Tudor bricks on the island. Hollow (?) at the south east end of the moat island shows the site of the former house. There was formerly a sluice in the centre of the retaining bank. <4> <5> <9> Name mentioned 1496 and 1525. <6> Moat is shown on the Tithe Award map of 1838. <7> Could be the site of a medieval manor belonging to St Pauls (see ). On the basis of a 1335 deed which includes "a windmill outside the gates".Repairs entry suggests a moat, chapel suggests distance from the church. <8>
