Tudor Trade and Transport

Transport in Tudor times was still largely by horse or by foot, though coaches were beginning to be seen in London. Waterborne transport still played an important part in trade, and Colchester was still quite an important port town with its links to the interior of the county.

The importance of trade was growing, and prices were going up due to ever-increasing demand. Many merchants became very wealthy, like John Paycocke who began work on Paycocke’s House in Coggeshall in 1500.
