Description Three trenches were excavated to assess and define the density of occupation within the Sandpit Road car park area. Early phases included pits, containing large quantities of domestic rubbish, a well and part of a cobbled road surface with side ditches. Later phases included more rubbish pits and ditches representing field or property boundaries. Finds included pottery, coins and bones, with the most interesting object being a copper alloy rider and horse found in the top fill of a pit dating to c. 225-350. <1> <2>
